Rules and regulations

Seabirds across the world are declining in number. Thus, a bird cliff the size and scale of Hornøya is an extremely valuable natural wonder. To minimise the impact human visitors have on these birds, we kindly ask that you stay to the permitted footpaths around the island. The footpaths are clearly marked and signs indicate where the extent of the public access ends. Research scientists studying the birds on Hornøya have access to all areas of the island. They wear an orange armband to identify themselves.

There is a toilet close to the boat landing dock and viewing hide.

Do not touch the birds or their eggs, pick flowers or leave any litter or food items. During the summer, you may see seabird chicks running around the island. Do not chase or touch them. Let nature take its course.

Above all else, the interest of the wildlife always comes first. Do not disturb the wildlife simply for a better view or photograph.

This map shows the footpath leading from the boat landing dock to the lighthouse.
